Bij deze presenteer ik mijn laatste werk getiteld Must H(e)ave(N).
Acryl op doek – 100/100cm- 2020- Onderdeel van de Brave New World serie.
Een moderne allegorie & vanitas over aanbidding. In de klassieke tijd werd het goddelijke aanbeden. Ook bij gebrek aan harde wetenschap. Daar is van alles over te vinden maar is ook goed voor te stellen. De mens was nietig en probeerde zo dicht mogelijk bij het Goddelijke te komen. Het leven was onredelijk en schiep zoveel vragen dat er haast wel iets groters moest zijn wat alles in een logisch perspectief zou zetten. Waar leven zo oneerlijk, kwetsbaar en futiel leek kon troost en reden gevonden worden in een groter plan. Anno 2020 kunnen we zeggen dat God en het spirituele enerzijds een modieuze revival door maakt. Maar anderzijds zou je kunnen stellen dat als God voor zuivere spiritualiteit staat dat God hartstikke dood is. De devotie heeft zich grotendeels van het spirituele naar het materiele verlegd. Merknamen worden vereerd. Geluk is te koop. Hoe waar deze uitspraak soms is laat dit beeld zien. Want het is geen fictief beeld het is een bestaande situatie die vast gelegd is tijdens een willekeurige Black Friday. Ik heb het slechts opnieuw naar de oppervlakte gehaald. Het is een fel realistisch en schetst een niet al te fraai beeld van een uitwas van de moderne mens. Als kunstenaar is het geweldig om met deze thema’s te spelen en iets zichtbaar te maken. Het is gelukkig niet de enige waarheid.

This is a modern allegory & vanitas about worshipping. In the classic ages adoration was reserved for the Divine. This was also due to lack of scientific knowledge. It is easy to pass judgement about it but easy to grasp as well. Men were frivolous and tried to get as close to God as possible. If life offered no reason but questions there must be something bigger that puts things into perspective. Were life is unfair, vulnerable and trivial, than comfort and reason can be found in a greater scheme of tings. In the year 2020 we can state that God and the spiritual is on a fashionable revival at one hand. But on the other hand we can state that if God stands for pure spirituality, he is probably stone dead. Devotion is shifted from spiritual to material. Brand names are the new idols. Happiness is on sale. How true this statement is lays in this image that is non-fictional. It is an existing situation captured during a Black Friday. I just dragged it to the surface. It is a cutting edge realism of an excess that does not reflects the best virtues of mankind. As an artist I like to play with theme’s like this thus to make things visible. Fortunately is it not the only truth.
