Original text leaflet 2012
Product information: Recipes for freedom is an artistic project by Marit Otto and Mark van Enk. The art project is a follow-up to a personal project by Niek van der Sprong in which he questions himself and the audience: ‘What is freedom?
Active Ingredients: Freedom generally has a positive effect on creativity, openness of mind and the ability to love.
Possible side effects: In 10% of the test subjects; difficulty in making choices. In 5% of cases: taking more freedom than wished. In 2% of cases: depriving another person of their freedom……………
The concept: A freedom pharmacy on the festival grounds where the public can bring their prescription for freedom instead of collecting it. We designed and built 3 installations for this purpose, spread across the festival grounds. The pharmacies were manned by freedom pharmacists, including ourselves.
The Freedom Pharmacy would like to see this question converted into beautiful, perhaps even usable recipes for freedom, or do you think there is no recipe for it?
Visitors to the festival who are wondering about all this can therefore turn to the Freedom Pharmacy on the festival site. At a regular pharmacy you pick up a prescription, but here you bring in a prescription. This recipe will be included in the digital recipe book on the site of ‘Wat is nou die vrijheid’ (What is that freedom?) and the original will be kept in a test tube for an as-yet unknown recipient………..
Would you like to submit a recipe before 5 May? You can: send your recipe to www.watisnoudievrijheid/receptenboek.nl.
