Dedicated Follower(2022) is samen met 130 andere video’s verkozen uit 1400 inzendingen om vertoond te worden op een meerdaags Video art festival in Kalamata. VIDEO ART MIDEN is een 4-daags festival van hedendaagse videokunst waarbij elke dag een ander deel van de stad wordt geactiveerd. Het festival is te bezoeken van 6 tot 9 juli 2023.

Over Dedicated Follower

In de video Dedicated Follower 2022 ontleed ik op collageachtige wijze het hedendaagse sociale fenomeen volgen. Het wordt spreekwoordelijk op de snijtafel gelegd, ontleed, ontdaan van zijn algemeen maatschappelijke aanvaardingen en kritisch onder de loep genomen. Ironie en brute werkelijkheid, fictie en non-fictie wisselen elkaar af. Beeld en geluid vertellen een tegenstrijdig verhaal.

In dit kunstwerk wil ik niet de verschillen maar de overlap zichtbaar maken tussen verschillende type aanbidders en  aanbedenen en tegelijkertijd ook een lans breken voor het individuele denken, het onafhankelijke zijn… voor de autonoom denkende mens.

Audiovisuele en artistieke experimenten, ritme, verbeelding, kleur, poëzie, videodans, performance, animatie, kunstmatige intelligentie, persoonlijke verhalen, hedendaagse sociaal-politieke-existentiële reflecties en beelden uit de toekomst komen samen in een rijk internationaal programma, dat de trends van onze tijd op mondiaal niveau traceert, door het werk van zowel gevestigde als opkomende jonge kunstenaars.

Het curatorteam van Miden presenteert in Kalamata meer dan 130 werken uit 30 landen uit de hele wereld, verdeeld in thematische secties en hommages. Het evenement omvat openbare avond vertoningen in verschillende open ruimtes elke avond (Aristomenous voetgangersstraat, vertoningen aan zee bij de jachthaven en het oostelijke strand), evenals ochtendevenementen in het Archeologisch Museum van Messenië, die presentaties en lezingen door uitgenodigde kunstenaars en curatoren, audiovisuele presentaties en eerbetoon omvatten.

De evenementen worden gehouden in samenwerking met de Nieuwe Filmclub van Kalamata – Filmhuis en de organisatie K.A.NE. (Sociale Ontwikkeling van de Jeugd), met steun van de gemeente Kalamata en de gemeentelijke culturele organisatie FARIS, evenals particuliere partners. De ochtendevenementen worden gehouden in samenwerking met het Eforaat voor Oudheden van Messenië en het Archeologisch Museum van Messenië.

Mijn video Dedicated Follower maakt samen met 11 andere video’s deel uit van de sectie 02 ‘The Thinker’ met werken die twijfel uitdrukken of de Sisypheïsche dimensie van het leven uitbeelden en ons stof tot nadenken geven. Het totaal duurt 51 minuten en wordt zaterdag 8 juli om 21u in de buitenlucht vertoond.

Remains Of Today 240 + 2022

De kunst installatie Remains Of Today is nog altijd aan het uitdijen. Momenteel telt het 240 kleine kunstwerken (verbals en UFO’s-30x 30 cm) .

Als je het strak naast elkaar zou uithangen zou het nu 6 meter breed x 3.60 meter hoog zijn.

Bij elk doek zit een verhaal geschreven in het Nederlands en English.
De eerste 100 doeken en verhalen zijn gebundeld in het boek Remains Of Today vol. 01. Dus Vol 02 en 03 lijken een logisch toekomstig vervolg.

Momenteel is de audio video experience (i.s.m. A. R.T.) te zien in de Stadkamer, Zwolle gedurende PROTO 2022.

Remains Of Today 240 x

The art installation Remains Of Today is still expanding. At the moment it counts 240 small works of art (verbals and UFO’ s -30×30 cm).

If you displayed it side by side, it would be 6 m. wide x 3.60 m. high.

Each canvas holds a story written in Dutch and English.
The first 100 paintings and stories are bundled in the book Remains Of Today vol. 01. So vol 02 and 03 seem a logical future sequel.

At the moment the audio video experience (in collaboration with A. R.T.) can be viewed in the Stadkamer, Zwolle during PROTO 2022.

Deze  video is onderdeel van de grotere kunstinstallatie ‘Remains Of Today’.

Featuring: Mohammed Ali en Joe Frazier, een oerknal, een waterstroom, bubbels, een springende figuur en een foto van Still Sparkling Still, het kunstwerk.

 Het begint met overvloedig stromend water in een gootsteen van een keuken en een stare down van de boxers Mohammed Ali en Joe Frazier dat wordt onderbroken door een oerknal. Deze spreekwoordelijke oerknal zet een oneindig gevecht in beweging. De boxers staan nu model voor de mensheid. Het gevecht gaat door als de countdown al ingezet is. De waterkraan komt weer in beeld en vergiet zijn laatste druppels tot de laatste druppel het einde markeert. 

Remains Of Today is een  serie van meer dan 100 kleine communicerende  kunstwerken gemaakt van (straat)afval.

Muzikant en producer Ali Reza Tahoeni a.k.a. A.R.T. heeft  soundtracks bij de individuele kunstwerken gemaakt. Om het compleet te maken heb ik weer videoclips gemaakt die de soundtracks visueel versterken.

Deze video is gebaseerd op het kunstwerk Still Sparkling Still (verbal 08), een collage van 6 waterflessen doppen met de woorden still en sparkling er op, en witte lakverf op canvas op een houten frame

‘Ontmoet verbal no.7. Een waterflesje is, of moet ik zeggen 6 waterflesjes, zijn de inspiratiebron voor dit kunstwerkje. Het zijn ingesleten termen als het gaat om keuze in water, plat of bubbels. Niet waard om een extra gedachte aan te verspillen nadat je gekozen hebt. Maar gecombineerd is het een statement. Het zegt zoveel als; Ik ben er nog, ik leef en bruis! Of….. 

De video toont een ander maar toch hetzelfde perspectief op dit Still Sparkling thema.

This video is part of the greater art installation of ‘Remains Of Today’.

Featuring: Mohammed Ali and Joe Frazier, a big bang, a water stream, a jumping figure and an image of Still Sparkling Still, the artwork.

It starts with water running in a kitchen sink and a stare down between Mohammed Ali and Joe Frazier interrupted by the big bang. This big bang sets a proverbial continuous fight in motion. The boxers now represent mankind. The fight continues even when the countdown sets in. The water faucet enters the screen again, and is pouring his last drops until it runs on empty with the final last drop.

Remains Of Today is a series of more than 100 small communicating artworks made from (street) litter.

Musician and producer Ali Reza Tahoeni a.k.a. A.R.T. made soundtracks of the individual artworks. To finalize it I made video clips to accommodate these soundtracks.

This video is based on the artwork Still Sparkling Still (verbal 08), a collage of six caps from bottles still and sparkling water, lacquer paint matte white on canvas on a wooden frame

“A bottle of water is, or should I say 6 bottles of water were the inspiration for this original piece of art.

Sparkling and still are such common words when it comes to the choice in water. Not even worth giving it a second thought after you made your choice. Combined it’s a statement that seems to say; I am still here, very much alive and still sparkling! Or am I?”

The video shows a different but same angel on this still sparkling theme.

Bij deze presenteer ik ‘To Avoid A Void’ – audio video experience no. 09.

Deze video maakt onderdeel uit van de grotere kunstinstallatie ‘Remains Of Today’.

Over deze video; Sinds ik oog in oog heb gezwommen met deze schitterende zeedieren hebben zij mijn hart gestolen. Mijn beeld over zeeleven is nooit meer hetzelfde geweest na de eerste kennismakingen. De onderwaterwereld is betoverend. Ik voel daar een diepe verbondenheid mee. Maar een diep verdriet komt over me als ik bedenk dat we het massaal aan het uitroeien zijn. Daarom deel ik die schoonheid (en een van de bedreigingen) graag met jullie.

Remains Of Today is a serie van meer dan 100 kleine communicerende kunstwerken gemaakt van straat afval en restmateriaal. Muzikant en producer Ali Reza Tahoeni a.k.a. A.R.T. heeft soundtracks gemaakt van deze individuele kunstwerken. Ik heb vervolgens weer videoclips gemaakt bij zijn soundtracks. 

Elk kunstwerk uit deze serie komt ook met een kleine filosofische bespiegeling of een commentaar op de actualiteit. 

Het verhaal van To Avoid A Void gaat als volgt;

Deze readymade is uit een plastic bescherm zakje geknipt. Ik kan me niet meer herinneren wat er in zat. Veel van deze zakjes en verpakkingen eindigen uiteindelijk in onze straten, wateren en uiteindelijk in onze zeeën en dit zijn geen zeeën van tijd. Het product uit het zakje was waarschijnlijk afkomstig uit het verre China. Ik neem dat aan, sorry voor mijn stereotypering, omdat Chinese bedrijven vaak zogenaamde Engelse waarschuwingsteksten op hun verpakkingen zetten. Deze teksten zijn vaak vrij vertaald naar het Chinglish en zitten vol van onschuldige, grappige fouten. Als we het er nu toch over hebben, de boodschap in de tekst op dit kunstwerkje lijkt duidelijk; Avoid a void!

About this video: Since I have been face to face with these beautiful sea creatures they stole my heart. My perception on sea life was never the same after the first encounters. The underwater world is enchanting. I am stuck with a deep love for the big blue. But deep sadness is what I feel when it comes to the massive destruction we bring upon it. This is why I’d like to share this beauty (and one of it’s threats) with you!

Remains Of Today is a series of more than 100 small communicating artworks made from (street) litter. Musician and producer Ali Reza Tahoeni a.k.a. A.R.T. made soundtracks of the individual artworks. To finalize it I made video clips to accommodate these soundtracks. 

Each separate artwork from the Remains Of Today series goes with a small story, a philosophical reflection or a comment on current affairs and contemporary events. 

The story of To Avoid A Void goes as follows;

This readymade is taken from a plastic protection sheet or bag. I can’t recall the content or use of it. Many of these bags and wrappings end up in our streets, waters and eventually in our seas and I do not mean seas of time. The original product hosted by this sheet or bag came probably all the way from China. I presume this, excuse my stereotyping, because the Chinese companies often send products accompanied with so called English warning notes. These notes are freely translated into Chinglish, filled with harmless and cute mistakes. When it comes to these lines on this piece, the message seems clear: Avoid a void!

Deze video is onderdeel van mijn grotere Remains Of Today’ installatie. Remains Of Today is een serie van inmiddels meer dan 100 kleine communicerend een van (straat) afval gemaakte kunstwerken. Elk afzonderlijk kunstwerk heeft zijn eigen verhaal, een filosofische bespiegeling of een reflectie op het hedendaagse alledaagse.

Dit verhaal gaat als volgt:

Dit kunstwerk is ontleent aan een tekst van een beroemd en invloedrijk nummer van Gill Scott-Heron. 1974, ‘The Revolution Will Not Be Televised’. Ik heb ‘The’ weggelaten in mijn kunstwerk om de revolutie waaraan hij refereert meer universeel te maken en wie weet, nog op handen zijnde.

In de video heb ik nog een vrouwelijke laag aan het verhaal toegevoegd. Krachtige vrouwen hebben groot verschil gemaakt in het verleden en zullen dat blijven doen in de toekomst. Ik denk dat de wereld klaar is voor een meer vrouwelijke benadering van zaken nu de machtige mannen er zo’n zooitje van maken.

Each separate artwork from the Remains Of Today series goes with a small story, a philosophical reflection or a comment on current affairs and contemporary events.

This story goes as follows;

This artwork is distracted from a famous and influential music-art -piece by Gil Scott-Heron. 1974, ‘The Revolution Will Not Be Televised’. I deleted the word ‘The ’at the beginning to make the revolution he is referring to more universal and still to come.

In the video I added a feminine layer to the story. Great woman made big differences in the past and will do so in the future. I think the world is ready for a more female approach to things as the mighty men made kind of a mess of it.

Bij deze presenteer ik  mijn laatste clip American Dream. uit Remains Of Today- audio –video experience.  Op de valreep, 1 dag voor kerst 2020 is de ‘clip’ no. 06 klaar. American Dream is misschien niet de perfecte kerst boodschap maar het is dan ook niet de perfecte kerst.

American Dream is misschien niet de perfecte kerst boodschap maar het is dan ook niet de perfecte kerst. Deze clip (en alle andere clips) heb ik gemaakt als reactie op de soundtracks van A.R.T. (Ali Reza Tahoeni) die op zijn beurt weer geïnspireerd is op de kunstwerken uit mijn Remains Of Today serie (inmiddels 100+ communicerende kunstwerken). Een mooie cross-over samenwerking tussen visuele. en audio kunst.  

American Dream is geworteld in verbal no.06 uit de Remians Of Today serie en dit is het verhaal wat er bij hoort;

De Amerikaanse droom is een begrip. Net als de uitspraak, ‘van krantenjongen naar miljonair’, een basis concept is over wat Noord-Amerika is en wil zijn. Namelijk; het land (de droom) (waar) gemaakt door immigranten uit heel de wereld. Elke Amerikaan behalve dan de Indiaan is non-native. De droom is de uitnodiging voor iedereen die er iets van wil maken. Want, “if you make it there, you make it anywhere”. Natuurlijk is dat niet voor iedere Amerikaan weggelegd.  Want het is wel het narratief van de winnaar en niet iedereen heeft evenveel toegang tot deze droom.

Naast de presentatie van American Dream, wil ik iedereen ondanks de bijzondere omstandigheden dit jaar, hele fijne feestdagen wensen.

American Dream may not be the perfect Christmas message, but then again I may not be the perfect Christmas. This clip (and all other clips adding up to 6) I made in reaction to the soundtracks made by A.R.T. (Ali Reza Tahoeni). Ali in his turn before me was inspired by my Remains Of Today series (more that 100+ communicating artworks). Welcome to this beautiful crossover collaboration between visual and audio art.

So, American Dream the is rooted in verbal 06 from the Remains Of Today series and this is the story that goes along with it

The American Dream is an iconic concept Just like the phrase ‘from paperboy to millionaire’. A basic concept about what (North) America is and wants to be. Bare in mind; the country is made and created by immigrants from all over the world. Each American, except the Indian, is not native. The dream is an invitation for everybody who wants to chase it. If you make it there, you can make it anywhere, right? Of course there is some cherry picking involved. The American dream is the story of the winners, not just everybody can claim this dream. Or can they?

Next to this presentation I wish you all in despite of the special circumstances, a happy holiday!

Met trots presenteer ik de audio- video-art experience ‘ The Nose Have It’.

Deze video maakt onderdeel uit van mijn grotere ‘Remains Of Today’ installatie. Remains Of Today is een serie van 100 kleine communicerende kunstwerken. Muzikant en producer Ali Reza Tahoeni a.k.a. A.R.T. heeft de soundtracks gemaakt bij de individuele kunstwerken. Daarop ben ik weer geïnspireerd geraakt en heb daar vervolgens weer clips bij gemaakt.

Elk kunstwerk heeft een klein verhaal, een filosofische bespiegeling. Het verhaal van The Nose Have It (2019) is als volgt.

The Nose Have It is geïnspireerd door de recente ontwikkelingen in de Brexit. Met name de beelden uit het Britse Lagerhuis en de voorzitter (john Bercow) die na het tellen van de stemmen de historische woorden ‘The no’s have it’ proclameert. Deze politieke situatie zat muurvast en is (denk ik) in zijn geheel te betreuren. Maar het beeld van de voorzitter die steeds hard/harder iets proclameert, zonder versterking, want de Britten houden van traditie, om boven het geroezemoes uit te komen is ook best komisch. Zeker als je ineens ‘The Nose Have It’ hoort in plaats van….

Each separate artwork goes with a small story, philosophic reflection. The story of The Nose Have It (2019) is as follows: 

The Nose Have It is Inspired by recent (2019) developments concerning Brexit. Especially the images of the British House of Commons and the chairman (John Bercow), after the counting of the votes and the proclamation of the historical words “The No’s Have It”, sticked. This political situation was stuck and jammed and was quite unsatisfactory at the time. But the image of the chairman calling out as loud as he can to shout down the buzz of arbitrary arguing politicians in the room is also quite comic. Certainly if you suddenly seem to hear “The Nose Have It’ instead of….

Plastic People is de 4e visuele vrucht van de samenwerking met muzikant/producer A.R.T. (Ali Reza Tahoeni)

De serie Remains Of Today beslaat nu meer dan 100 kleine kunstwerken van elk 30 bij 30 cm. Ali maakt geïnspireerd op deze kunstwerken 100 soundtracks (of meer) die straks ook onder de naam Remains Of Today op een album zullen verschijnen. Althans dat is de bedoeling. Vervolgens maak ik weer videoclips geïnspireerd op de 100 kunstwerken en de tracks die Ali daar bij heeft gecomponeerd. Er begint nu een soort Remains Of Today Droste-effect te ontstaan.

Plastic People is dus no. 04 uit de serie kunstwerken, soundtracks en videoclips.

Onderdeel van de Remains Of Today serie

Plastic staat voor gemak en hygiëne. Het is een geniale uitvinding van Alexander Parkes 1841 (Parkesine > naar zich zelf vernoemd ). Inmiddels verdrinken we er in. Plastic People verwijst naar het plastic in of aan ons. Wat ooit als kinderspeelgoed en plastic gimmick begon; Barbie en Ken groeide in de 21e eeuw uit tot een tikje ordinair maar toch gewild schoonheidsideaal. Wie had dat ooit gedacht. Dat brengt me bij de volgende vraag; ‘worden we uiteindelijk zelf plastic in een plastic wereld?

Plastic People the audio-video experience no. 04

Plastic People is the 4th visual fruit of the collaboration with musician.producer A.R.T. (Ali Reza Tahoeni)

The series Remains Of Today contains now more than 100 small artworks of each 30/ 30 cm. Ali makes soundtracks inspired on these artworks. This soundtracks will be released on an future album called Remains Of Today. Although, that is the general idea. Subsequently I create videoclips that are inspired on both my 100 artworks as the soundtracks composed by Ali. We can almost speak of a Remains Of Today Drost effect in the making.

Plastic People is no. 04 from the series of artworks, soundtracks and videoclips.

Plastic stands for convenience and hygiene. This was a genius invention by Alexander Parkes 1841(named Parkesine at first). Today, we drown in it. ‘Plastic People’ is addressing the plastic in and on us. What once started out as toy dolls and plastic iconic gimmicks developed into a tad vulgar but yet actual and desired beauty ideal? Who would have guessed? That leads me to the question; do we become plastic in a plastic world?
