Expositie ‘Excess For All’ @ Galerie Verzantvoort, Stationsstraat 148, Apeldoorn. Van 12 november tot 02 januari 2018.

Deze expositie bestaat uit schilderijen en beelden van 2014 tot recent gemaakt werk. Een aantal werken zijn eerder geëxposeerd maar de meest recente werken (2017) worden hier voor het eerst getoond aan publiek. In 2012 is Marit met een reeks begonnen die zij met terug werkende kracht Metropolieten is gaan noemen. Deze serie gaat over hedendaagse thema’s als technologische vooruitgang, urbanisering en massacultuur versus kwetsbaarheid, vrijheid en de menselijke maat. In deze serie worden deze thema’s multi interpretabel weergegeven. Maar eigenlijk geldt dat voor al het werk van Marit, het schuurt en wringt altijd ergens.
Excess For All, de titel van deze expositie, sluit hier naadloos op aan. In 2017 heeft Marit een aantal esthetische maar misschien ook wat verwonderde en cynische werken gemaakt die soms letterlijk inhaken op actuele en sociale vraagstukken. De onderliggende vragen gaan wederom over de mate van vrijheid die we ervaren en hoe we ons verhouden tot b.v. de natuur, anderen, de massa cultuur en het verschijnsel sociale druk, die het digitale tijdperk met zich mee brengt. Wederom is het niet duidelijk welke boodschap de werken met zich mee dragen, ze bevragen en onderzoeken. In de titels van de werken wordt soms wel een statement gemaakt welke louter berust op het buikgevoel van de kunstenares. Ze is zelf uiteindelijk ook een product van deze tijd.
In de afgelopen jaren is Marit bezig geweest een voor haar nieuwe vormentaal te ontwikkelen. Deze heeft ze gevonden door ongebruikelijke elementen met elkaar te combineren. Door de vreemde combinaties, van hoekig en architectonisch en menselijk organisch, ontstaan er nieuwe spannende composities.
Sinds 1994 is Marit werkzaam als beeldend kunstenaar. Haar atelier is gevestigd aan de Koestraat 10 te Zwolle. Haar grafische achtergrond is goed terug te zien in haar werk. En hoewel zij primair kunstschilder en conceptdenker is heeft zij zich door de jaren heen ontwikkeld tot een multidisciplinair kunstenaar.
Kenmerkend voor haar autonome werk is de centrale rol voor de mens in vorm en gedrag. Het is vaak een weerspiegeling van actuele maatschappelijke thema’s maar ook het alledaagse, het persoonlijke en het absurde zijn belangrijke inspiratie bronnen. Hoewel haar werk esthetisch is om te zien schuilt er vaak een soort onbehagen in. Deze tweeledigheid of dubbelheid is ook een terug kerend gegeven. Zie je wat je ziet?
De beelden die ontstaan begeven zich vaak op het snijvlak van fictie en realisme en grafisch en plastisch. Haar autonome werk bestaat uit schilderijen, beelden en digitale fotobewerkingen
Naast haar autonome werk is zij actief met kunstprojecten in concept en uitvoering, community art projecten, educatieve projecten, grafische vormgeving, kunstcoach, gastcurator, museumdocent bij de Fundatie en ook actief als lid van de commissie beeldende kunst Zwolle.

This exhibition contains paintings and sculptures from 2014 till recent. A number of works are exhibitioned earlier but the most recent works (2017) will be shown to public for the first time. In 2012 Marit started a series that is called Metropolitans in hindsight. This series is about current everyday live themes as technological progress, urbanization and mass culture versus vulnerability, freedom and the human scale. In this series these themes are multi interpretable but actually that goes for all of Marits work. It usually wrenches and discomforts somewhere.
Excess For All, The title of this exhibition fits seamless to this greater theme. In 2017 Marit made a few aesthetic but somewhat dazzled and cynical works that link, sometimes literally, to current and social issues. The underlying questions are again about the amount of freedom that we experience and how we relate to nature, others, mass culture, and the phenomenon ‘social pressure’ that the digital age brings along. Once again it is not clear which message the artworks carries. They just seem to wonder and search. However statements are made in some titles. These statements are merely based on the underbelly of the artist. Afther all, she’s a product of this times and age too.
In the past years Marit has been busy altering and improving her style. She did so by combining unusual elements. By combining architectonic and geometrical shapes with organic, human and animal elements exciting new compositions arised.
Marit is working as an artist since 1994; She runs her atelier currently at the Koestraat 10, Zwolle, NL. Her graphical background still plays a predominant role in her work. Though she is primary a painter, she developed into a multi disciplinary artist over the years.
A distinctive feature in her work is the human body in al its shapes, forms and behavioral aspects. Her art is often a personal reflection of social issues and current affairs. But she’s also inspired by daily scenes, platitudes and the absurdities of human behaviour. Although her art is highly aesthetical; it also contains distressing elements that evoke a feeling of uneasiness. Thiscontradiction is a recurring theme in her artworks. Do you really see what is shown?
The created images often touch upon the edge of fiction and fact and range from graphic to plastic. Therefore her artworks covers several disciplines:paintings, sculptures and processed photographs.
Next to her work as an independent artist, she creates and participates in community art projects and educational art projects. She also designs for non-profit organisations, private clients and commercial companies and last but not least she is also participating member of the visual arts committee and museum guide at the Fundatie, Zwolle
