Prelude to Me, My Selfie & I

(for english version, scroll down)

Holliday season is lovely, everyone is out of office, and I am focussed and relaxed, tempo doeloe. Currently I am working on a series of portraits titled Me My Selfie & I and it reflects (obvious) our selfie culture, an intriguing phenomenon with multiple psychological and philosophical question marks, as far as I am concerned. I almost finished the first 16 pieces and, oh, what joy to loose my self in portrait painting. It has almost had become a guilty pleasure. Because portraits are personal and hard to sell, I kind of stopped painting them. But really, it is one of the most fun things to do, painting faces, expressions, characters and now completed with twits, sillies, attention getters and duck faces as it were a ironic condition humaine. The first real results will take a bit longer but I would like to treat you on a six steps phased becoming of a portrait. This one will probably get a final finishing but it already shows how life enters a painting.

Apart from that many nice and exiting things are about to happen. Some of them are rock solid; others are still in negotiating a research phase. One of the things that are already on the agenda for this autumn is an exhibition @ Galerie Verzantvoort. in Apeldoorn, NL. My most recent work wil be shown there and the complete series ‘Metropolitans’. The opening will take place on Sunday the 5th of October.

Artwearness, my career on the side (: has it own dynamics that I enjoy. No, I am and will not become an entrepreneur, I tend to loose myself in creative processes and my fantasy goes adrift more than often, it is just so much fun. Now it only has to become an economic success too, no rush, it will land on its feet. Finally a few nice projects are in the pipeline waiting for Go/ no go, I will inform you later on the matter. I just might open a little book about fund hunting, how awful and bureaucratic that is……. Al creativity is about to get sucked and drained here
